"The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership recognises that it
is vital to support the future skills of people in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
    – especially our young people. The only way to improve our economy in the future is
to work together now to develop the right training, learning and skills development.
To see local businesses giving up their time to work with the next generation is inspiring.
The work of Enterprise Foundation South West is a real catalyst of change in the mind set
of our young people, by directly engaging them with activities creates that spark of
opportunity which is the first step towards a sustainable and rewarding career pathway."
Sandra Rothwell, Chief Executive, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership

"Time and again I hear from employers that some young people are lacking in the 'soft skills' which are
essential in the workplace. I take this to mean some of the basic tenets of being entrepreneurial – for
example, being able to speak to and listen to customers, interpret instructions from employers,
understand and use information manuals or information online and a basic ambition to 'do the job well'
so they can progress in the workplace . I also get the impression that some young people fear the
workplace whereas it should simply be the place where one learns to be an adult. Additionally I am told
that businesses find it difficult to engage with Schools to offer support in careers education."

Enterprise Foundation South West

The Enterprise Foundation South West, is a not for profit organisation founded by serial entrepreneur Rachel Jones in 2013. Created to raise aspirations and inspire young people, link the business community with educational establishments and to enrich curriculums throughout, the Enterprise Foundation will support the strategic delivery of advice and guidance to young people, in turn leading to great careers and successful enterprise here in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly.

'Inspiring the Next Generation' was launched in September 2014 and co-designed by HE Students at Cornwall College. Following on from the design of this model, the 'Be Inspired' conferences were launched.

Be Inspired!
Turning dreams into reality

‘Be Inspired’ is a series of conferences created to encourage a pathway to enterprise and employment for young people in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly. The conference objectives are to inspire and raise the aspirations of young people at a key decision-making phase of their lives.

‘Be Inspired’ Conferences will support young people to:

  • Understand what motivates them
  • Learn what steps need to be taken to achieve their dream career
  • Network with positive role models who can share their experiences and give expert advice
  • Action plan progression routes i.e. further and higher education, apprenticeships, employment, enterprise, social enterprise
  • Understand more about employability skills, the benefits of work experience and transferable skills
  • Be inspired by young people already succeeding here in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly

The project itself is planned, delivered and evaluated by students of Cornwall College following a project brief from the Programme Director of EFSW and supported by Cornwall College, both of whom will then act as mentors.

Business Enterprise & Schools Together

It is important that young people are given the opportunity to make informed choices about education, employment and training opportunities available to them as they start their career. Developing the enterprise skills of our young people makes them better employees as well as potential entrepreneurs of the future. It also ensures that in this ever changing work environment and economy, young people have the ability to...

think creatively; find solutions; raise aspiration; grow businesses.

The Enterprise Foundation SW was part of the consultation with Lord Young, BIS and the Cabinet Office, helping to develop and deliver the 'Enterprise for All' objectives on behalf of the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership. The foundation was selected along with five other LEP’s across the UK to work with the British Government to develop the initial pilot programme of Enterprise Advisers.  This was successfully completed in the Summer of 2015 with its future being managed by the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Enterprise Coordinator.
